Karma is not a judgement of God. It is the reaction to an action. It is the reaping of what we’ve sown.

When I was younger, I worked for a major search engine corporation. I had a manger who relished the suffering of his employees. One day he called me over to his desk and he was laughing. I didn’t get the joke. He says, “look what’s on my desk.” I still didn’t get the joke. That’s when my manager pointed to a contractor’s laptop saying, “I fired him!” He was laughing. He was relishing the look on the person’s face as he terminated them. His glee climaxed while he watched them leave the office, head down.

I never understood that behavior. People getting fired, whether they “deserve” it or not, it’s not something to relish in. They have families they have to go home to. They have to tell them, “sorry, I lost my job.” They may have kids. They have bills to pay. They may have medical conditions. What’s the joke?

At every company I’ve ever worked for, this same routine plays out. Someone gets fired and the staff or leaders laugh about it. Maybe they find a bottle of alcohol in their now empty office, and laugh at the “alcoholic.” Or maybe they laugh at how firing a smoker makes the air a bit more cleaner in the office. It’s cruel.

That manager I had who relished the firing of his employee… less than four years after that day, he was working at a different job. A job that wasn’t so kind. He had made so many enemies and his karma followed him. He was terminated one day, and I had the unfortunate opportunity to hear others laugh as he was led out of the company.

Certainly it will appear that some of us escape total judgement. Wealthy villains seem to enjoy the spoils of their effort, yet it isn’t the case. When they die, they return to each of the actions they did and feel from the point of view of their victims.

Our best hope is to align with positive spirituality and let go of our anger, greed, desires. Only then can we cleanse out the past problems, those prior seeds of our prior actions.
